The 4lb rise to 100 asks more, but his March second over this course and distance came from that same mark. He was beaten two lengths and three quarters on that occasion, a useful indication that the revised rating need not rule him out. Placings at Cartmel and Uttoxeter in July also lend substance to his recent staying chase form.

He had fallen over two miles and a furlong at Market Rasen in July, so the Hexham result was a welcome step forward.
